Bishop We investigate the feedback control of a periodically driven FitzHugh–Nagumo circuit (FHN), which displays both spiking and non-spiking behaviors in chaotic or periodic regimes. The simple high pass filter (washout filter) is compared with an all pass filter which only affects the phase characteristics of the input signal. Experimental measurements performed on the electronic implementation of the FHN are in good agreement with numerical simulations. Apart a small difference in their amplitude corrections that remain in both cases within a few percent with respect to the unperturbed spiking signal, we prove the key role of the phase characteristics of the two filters in achieving control. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. Optoelectronic Implementation of a FitzHugh-Nagumo Neural Model

An optoelectronic implementation of a spiking neuron model based on the FitzHugh-Nagumo equations is presented. A tunable semiconductor laser source and a spectral filter provide a nonlinear mapping from driver voltage to detected signal. Linear electronic feedback completes the implementation, which allows either electronic or optical input signals. Experimental results for a single system and...

Phase control of excitable systems

Here we study how to control the dynamics of excitable systems by using the phase control technique. Excitable systems are relevant in neuronal dynamics and therefore this method might have important applications. We use the periodically driven FitzHugh–Nagumo (FHN) model, which displays both spiking and non-spiking behaviours in chaotic or periodic regimes. The phase control technique consists...

Control of Chaos in Driven Fitzhugh-nagumo Circuit by Means of Filtered Feedback

We report on the feedback control of a periodically driven FitzHugh-Nagumo system displaying various dynamical regimes, regular and chaotic, including chaotic spiking. The feedback term is composed of a high-pass or an all-pass filter. We provide a characterization of the efficiency of the filters in controlling the dynamical state of the system, both experimentally (electronic circuit) and num...

An improved pseudospectral approximation of generalized Burger-Huxley and Fitzhugh-Nagumo equations

In this research paper, an improved Chebyshev-Gauss-Lobatto pseudospectral approximation of nonlinear Burger-Huxley and Fitzhugh- Nagumo equations have been presented. The method employs chebyshev Gauss-Labatto points in time and space to obtain spectral accuracy. The mapping has introduced and transformed the initial-boundary value non-homogeneous problem to homogeneous problem. The main probl...

Robust control of chaos in modified FitzHugh-Nagumo neuron model under external electrical stimulation based on internal model principle

This paper treats the question of robust control of chaos in modified FitzHugh–Nagumo neuron model under external electrical stimulation based on internal model principle. We first present the solution of the global robust output regulation problem for output feedback system with nonlinear exosystem. Then we show that the robust control problem for the modified FitzHugh–Nagumo neuron model can ...
